The therapeutic journey

A therapeutic journey can start because of our need to understand and cope with anything that brings distress and emotional suffering into our lives.  Some of the reasons for which you may want to start therapy are:

  • You experience difficult and intense emotions.
  • You find yourself having negative thoughts about the future or ruminating about the past.
  • You have well-established dysfunctional behaviors.
  • You want to further explore your needs, to understand and deeply connect with yourself and your significant others.

Process and content of therapy

When we experience adversities in life, in an attempt to understand what we go through, we may often feel overwhelmed, confused, and disappointed. Sometimes we may even blame ourselves for our difficulties. This lack of a clear and complete understanding of our concerns can result in additional sadness, worry, or anger, emotions that aggravate our initial distress.  During therapy, we will explore the factors that triggered your difficulty in the past and the factors that perpetuate it in the present to deeper understand your issue. Then, after thoroughly analyzing and discussing your concerns, we will apply the therapeutic intervention.

The therapeutic intervention is implemented based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and EMDR trauma therapy, depending on the very nature of the issue that bothers you. These therapeutic approaches are scientifically evaluated and proven effective in addressing various mental health difficulties.

I understand psychotherapy as a process that aims to alleviate our pain and enhance our strengths. Subsequently, it is of great importance that during therapy, we will focus not only on your burdens but also on your already existing personal skills or maybe the more pleasant aspects of your life.

The therapeutic relationship

The therapeutic journey includes painful moments. To re-experience our painful memories, we need to feel safe; hence, during therapy, it is my priority to create an environment of trust and acceptance, where you can feel comfortable sharing your worries and openly expressing yourself.

In this therapeutic environment, we will explore your experience of your difficulty and its impact on your daily life and relationships.

My values

My choice to become a psychologist and my devotion to psychotherapy are strongly related to my understanding of the importance of self-growth.  Ι believe that self-growth is a difficult -sometimes even painful- yet remarkable process, during which some parts of ourselves bloom, or grow stronger, and generally change in any way. These ‘growth’ changes can enrich our lives and help us become the person we want to be. Self-growth can derive from every aspect of life, from joyful and painful experiences.

Moreover, I consider it essential that everyone cultivates a caring and empathetic relationship with themselves; therefore, my motivation is to help people take care of their needs and to connect with themselves deeply.

Lastly, it is my priority that my clinical practice is in accordance with the psychologists’ code of conduct. Being aware that a complete delivery of any therapeutic intervention requires supervision, I receive clinical supervision regularly to enhance my therapeutic services’ effectiveness constantly.
