Online Therapy
My experience with Online Therapy
I have experience providing online therapy both independently and in collaboration with mental health clinics, offering virtual sessions to clients worldwide.
What is Online Therapy?
Online therapy refers to delivering psychotherapy sessions via digital platforms and the Internet. Numerous studies have shown that online therapy is as effective as in-person therapy for treating a wide variety of psychological issues.
Description of Online Therapy
The content of online sessions mirrors that of face-to-face sessions, with flexible adjustments made as needed.
To participate in online therapy, you will need:
- A private space where you feel comfortable discussing your concerns.
- A stable internet connection.
- A device that suits your preference (such as a mobile phone, computer, tablet, etc.).
Online sessions can be conducted entirely online—from start to finish—or integrated into your therapy at any point, depending on your needs.
Confidentiality in online therapy
Online therapy fully maintains confidentiality, just as it does in in-person sessions. Professional confidentiality protects anything we discuss and is only breached in specific situations. As outlined in Article 4 of the Psychologists’ Code of Conduct, you will be fully informed about these exceptions during our first session.
What are the benefits and potential challenges of online therapy?
Based on research and my experience working with individuals online, here are some benefits of online therapy:
- Provides access to mental health services regardless of your location.
- Eliminates the need for travel, saving time spent on in-person sessions.
- Allows sessions to take place in a location of your choice.
- Offers support for those who have physical health issues that make travel difficult (e.g., pain, illness) but still want to attend therapy.
- Assists individuals with mental health conditions that make leaving the house challenging (e.g., Agoraphobia, Panic Attacks, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder).
Possible challenges with online therapy:
While online therapy has numerous benefits, it may not be suitable for everyone or all types of therapeutic needs. We will discuss whether online therapy is the best approach for your concerns. Technical issues such as poor internet connection or device problems occasionally occur, but we’ll find alternative solutions to ensure the session continues smoothly.
